We're very lucky to be in a part of the country where there is always a festival or an exhibition either happening or just around the corner and there are plenty of local events to enjoy.

2022 Events

Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th May - BISHOPS CASTLE WALKING FESTIVAL - The 22nd annual Walking Festival will be held over four days in May, when the countryside is at its best. A walker’s paradise, local footpaths lead over open hilltops, through winding valleys, tiny hamlets, country lanes and sometimes the remains of ancient hill forts. The views are pretty impressive too!

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th May - LUDLOW SPRING FESTIVAL - Beer, Bangers, Bread & Classic Cars - Like a Beer Festival but Better.

Tuesday 17th to Monday 30th May - BISHOPS CASTLE ROUND & ABOUT WALKS - Plenty to choose from including the circular Ramble (23 miles) which runs between Bishops Castle and Clun, taking in Bury Ditches, the Walcot Estate and bits of the Shropshire Way and Offa’s Dyke. It divides into a fairly gentle Amble (10 miles), more challenging Scramble (13 miles) and shorter distances if you choose. All walks are in aid of Blood Cancer and can be booked via JustGiving:

Sunday 29th & Monday 30th May - WALCOT HALL OPEN DAY - The gardens and arboretum of this former home of Clive of India are open for charity under the National Garden Scheme from 1.30pm to 5.30 pm both days. (01588)680570

Friday 10th & Saturday 11th June - WALCOT HALL OPERA - The annual opera performed by Opera a la Carte returns to the Ballroom for the 16th year running with a captivating performance of Carmen. (01588)680570

Sunday 3rd July - BISHOP'S CASTLE CARNIVAL - One of the oldest and possibly the best traditional town carnivals with a parade of steam engines, vintage cars and floats around the town followed by fun, games and music on Bishop’s Castle playing fields.

Friday 8th & Saturday 9th July - BISHOPS CASTLE REAL ALE TRAIL - Based in and around the town’s six historic pubs and two real ale breweries. A huge variety of beers and ciders from Shropshire and the surrounding borders are represented as well as a great selection from the rest of the UK. Live music across the town on both the Friday and Saturday.

Saturday 30th July to Sunday 7th August - CLUN CARNIVAL - Several events, starting with an Art & Craft Exhibition. On Show Day (August 6) a procession including marchers, carnival floats and historic vehicles starts a tour of the town at 1.00pm followed by Crowning of the Carnival Queen in The Square. From 2pm there will be a large horticultural and homecraft show on the Castle Meadow, together  with a tea tent, bar, stalls and entertainments.

Sunday 14th August - LUDLOW MAGNALONGA - A ramble and feast in the Marches countryside.

Friday 9th to Sunday 11th September - LUDLOW FOOD FESTIVAL - Inside Ludlow Castle with more than 100 local food and drink producers and suppliers: real food, ale, cider, perry, wine and more from the Marches, with samples and tastings.

Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September - CLUN VALLEY BEER FESTIVAL - All the pubs along the beautiful Clun valley join in this event. Transport is provided between pubs.
