The School House B&B in Shropshire

Rural relaxation. You can relax in comfort in our Victorian former school house while you discover and enjoy the area. We are in Chapel Lawn just outside Bucknell and close to historic Ludlow.

Chapel Lawn is in the Shropshire Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) so there is plenty of beautiful countryside to explore. Country walks, visiting castles or going to National Trust properties and gardens are just some ideas.

Ludlow is a small friendly town full of historic buildings and independent shops. It is also a town that specialises in good quality local food.

We can help you discover the south of Shropshire and the surrounding area with our vast knowledge of events and places of interest.

We'd love to see you here at our Shropshire B&B soon.

Our Rooms

The School House has just three spacious rooms, one of which is a suite.

As well as a large pocket sprung bed made up with Egyptian cotton linen, each room has an en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower.

Fluffy towels, bath robes and complimentary Duck Island toiletries are provided for you. Each room also has a sofa and a flat screen TV.  Wireless internet is provided throughout the house.

You will also find some of those little extras that you deserve on your break.  Homemade treats and a selection of quality teas and coffee. Fresh milk and local mineral water are in the silent room fridge. Wine glasses are provided.

Locally Sourced Food

Your breakfast will contain as much local produce as we can source, and we ensure that everything is fresh and seasonal. There will be a selection of hot and cold options for you featuring homemade bread and cereals.

We can recommend plenty of fabulous eateries just a short drive away with good local food. If you prefer not to eat out, then why not try a ‘bedroom picnic’ – a selection of savoury and sweet goodies for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own room. You’re welcome to bring your own drink and we provide glasses and bottle openers on your welcome tray.

When you book, please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements so that we can source any particular ingredients before your stay.

Dog Friendly B&B

You’re welcome to bring one well-behaved dog with you if you book the Redlake room. The Redlake room is a large room on the ground floor. With this room you have your own private entrance. We can recommend walks either from the house or further away.  We may even see you when we're walking Molly, our Collie / Lab cross.

About Us

During 2015 we decided to make the move away from Surrey and a corporate lifestyle. After having spent several holidays in Shropshire we decided that it was the place for us.

We fell in love with The School House because of its location in the peaceful countryside of The Shropshire Hills. It offers us the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors without great crowds.

The proximity to Ludlow was important to us as we knew it was a place to enjoy good quality food and where we could source ingredients for a great breakfast.

We love to meet new people and let them know all about Shropshire and The Shropshire Hills giving them a memorable stay at The School House B&B.

How Not to Get Lost

BY CAR: Chapel Lawn is situated between the village of Bucknell and the A488 at New Invention. It is the only hamlet along this road. Once in Chapel Lawn you will find us in the centre close to the church, on the same side of the road (i.e. next to the village hall car park).

The best way not to get lost is to have a look at the map and then if you're using sat nav, make sure you key 'School House' into it as well as the postcode (SY7 0BW).

SAT NAV WARNING: Some sat navs will send you along very narrow roads and some may send you up a farm track towards Squire Farm in Chapel Lawn - do not go up this track but keep on the main thoroughfare. Also avoid Bridgend Lane in Bucknell as this will lead you through a ford.

BY TRAIN: The nearest railway stations are in Bucknell (3 miles) and Knighton (5 miles) - both on the Heart of Wales line. Taxis are available in Knighton but please book in advance.
